World-Class Food Allergy App - The Tech Behind AllerGuarder
Our goal at AllerGuarder was to design the perfect food allergy app...an app that food allergy parents find useful and effective...and an app that friends and family are happy with and willing to install and run on their smartphones ( iPhones or Android). The free AllerGuarder app achieves this perfect combination of efficacy and convenience.
Apple IOS vs. Android |

The good news is that the AllerGuarder app works well at providing allergy protection installed on either an Apple or Android device. There are some small differences in how each one will respond to the wristband.
First, in technical terms….
Multitasking is the ability of an operating system to run multiple applications at once. The multitasking implementation on Android allows any program to run in the background, for as long as it wants. An application can run as a service, completely in the background of the phone’s operation. An application can run at startup, on a schedule, based on events, or continue running after started by the user. While running in the background, an Android app can do anything it has been given permission to do.
Apple iOS does not allow true multitasking for third party apps. Apple iOS only allows certain APIs to run in the background, such as audio streaming and push notifications. With Apple iOS, an app stops running the instant the user switches to another app. The negative for Apple iOS is reduced functionality and innovation, and often a frustrating user experience.
Multitasking and AllerGuarder…Because Android allows for multitasking, the AllerGuarder app can run fully in the background at all times. So even if the app is closed, the push notifications on Android are bracelet-specific, and the app can have functionality not to issue multiple warnings of the same bracelet within a certain period of time.
Multitasking with iOS is much more limited. The AllerGuarder app can run in the background, but in a very limited way. When the app is closed the push notifications on Apple iOS are not bracelet-specific, and the app does not have functionality to avoid multiple warnings of the same bracelet within a certain period of time.
In order to make the AllerGuarder app as convenient as possible, we’re working to add the following features, which will be available for free in our next update to the app:
